About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Daniel, You are on the right track with your efforts. Students like demonstrations and with your demonstrations of basic electricity you are showing them application and relevancy in relation to their lives outside of the classroom. This really helps to keep them engaged and focused on the course. Gary
Hi June, What a great attitude you have about professional development. I like you have taught many years and yet it seems like every time I go to a conference or workshop I get something that I can add to my teaching toolbox. It is as you say how we continue to grow and develop our expertise as instructors. I wish you continued teaching success. Gary
Hi Carla, I like the way you start off your classes. I know your students get comfortable and feel a part of the class from the very beginning. By helping them to understand the policies, requirements and expectations of the class you are reducing their concerns and frustrations. You are setting the stage for successful learning and career development. Great job! Gary
Hi Jerry, I wish you much success with this effort. Based upon my experience I know it will be valuable to and for the students. They will get the support they need when they need it. Gary
Hi Timothy, Relevancy and application are two words that need to be a part of every lesson. Your comments of how you use both of these words in your lessons help to show students how they can be successful in their careers. Sometimes they get bogged down in the courses and forget to see they are learning for their future. Gary
Hi John, You make a very good point about how to establish a supportive and positive learning environment online. The environment revolves around you and how you put together your approach to student learning. Gary
Hi Timothy, All of your forum comments revolve around how you can be an effective and efficient instructor while providing support to your students. Your customization of instruction is to be commended. Keep up your efforts as I know your students are appreciative of your efforts. Gary
Hi Stephen, Being available and supportive to your students is a key component of student success as you well know. Thanks for sharing these comments about how this kind of support needs to be provided. Gary
Hi Scott, Good question that you raise. The answer is to offer variety of instruction delivery and opportunities to learn. Then students can focus on the content through the different deliveries. Gary
Hi Lisa, Good point about how to encourage and support students. This is so important in student success. By presenting yourself as a caring supportive educator you help students to see how they can be successful in the course and progress in their education. Gary
