Project Title:  CTE Advocacy: Developing our New Workforce with Partnership

Project Mentor:  I need one, but I’d like it to be Lisa Mongiello. 

 

1. Description and goals of the project:   What will your end product be?

I would like to produce an infographic that can be blasted all over social media to grow awareness of the role CTE education in workforce development.  I want to work with Lisa Mongiello and help with her work in this area.  I want to utilize Twitter and LinkedIn to grow awareness in the business and education communities about the powerful partnership between CTE education and workforce development.  Growing our local economy on Long Island can be done by providing local manufacturers (there are 3000) with a quality workforce.  This workforce can be trained by schools in the BOCES programs on the secondary level as well as adult education level.  My overall goal is to create awareness for all CTE, my smaller goal is to make sure my program is known in the industry.

 

1. 3-5 timeline goals for completing your project:
   1. Start researching numbers as they pertain to CTE graduates from BOCES  as well as in district CTE programs to see where students wind up… is this information even available? – 2016-2020 data if possible by January
   2. Meet with (virtually) Lisa Mongiello to discuss my project and her work before new year.
   3. Begin infographic with other data such as workforce development data, manufacturing hiring data, information from DOL about current workforce trends, trade school enrollment, etc. by January/February
   4. Work on data and getting it into a format that can be understood and translated into an infographic that is social media friendly. February.

 

1. Summary of work done to complete your project:

I have reached out to Lisa Mongiello, I have other workforce development connections as well that I am reaching out to.  I have begun to dig for the numbers I am looking for.  I have reached out to folks who are better at LinkedIn than I to learn how to really capitalize on its power.  Researching and learning how to get the best infographic program for the job (Canva or another program?).
