From this module, I learned the importance of student voice and choice in supporting engagement, confidence, and deeper learning. Giving students options in how they participate, create, and demonstrate their understanding allows them to use their strengths and feel more comfortable sharing their ideas. It also aligns with the UDL principle of action and expression, which encourages providing multiple ways for students to show what they know.
One key idea I plan to apply is offering two or three structured choices for how students complete an assignment or assessment, such as creating a short video explanation, developing a digital slideshow, or writing a response. Providing clear guidelines and user guides will help students focus on the learning goals without feeling overwhelmed by too many options.
I also learned the importance of reflection after the activity. Asking students to reflect on how well their chosen approach helped them demonstrate their learning allows them to better understand themselves as learners. Over time, this helps students build confidence and make more intentional choices about how they learn and present their work.
By incorporating voice, choice, and reflection into my classroom, I hope to create a more supportive and student-centered learning environment where students feel empowered to take ownership of their learning.
