This module taught me that effective assessments should allow all students the opportunity to demonstrate their learning by removing unnecessary barriers and providing multiple ways to show what they know. I learned the importance of aligning assessments with learning goals, offering appropriate accommodations, providing student choice when possible, and using assessments to support learning rather than simply assign grades.
I will implement this knowledge by designing assessments that are accessible to all learners, including students with IEPs and 504 Plans. I will use a variety of assessment methods such as skills demonstrations, projects, simulations, quizzes, and reflections so students can demonstrate competency in different ways. I will provide clear expectations, timely feedback, and opportunities for student choice while maintaining the same learning objectives for all students. This approach will help ensure that every student has an equitable opportunity to succeed and demonstrate their knowledge and skills in my Health Science classroom.
