Steven, another angle to consider on such issues is to find different ways to embrace such technology in the classroom and get students connected to your lessons plans through the use of such resources. If our students are more interested in their gadgets than they are in our message, forcing them to ignore these tools is not going to get us any closer to accomplishing our lesson objectives.
