I couldn't agree with this module more, I think in industry we forget about human factors and worry more about getting the task at hand done. I have always made it a priority to get to know my students and what they are about. First day always included individual introductions with your name, where you from, what have you done before, and what brings you here. It opens a lot of doors for people. The fear factor is one of those things that you will always have at least one person that does not feel confident. I had a person that said, "no matter what you teach me, I am just going to mess it up"! It took a while working with him and given him extra time but in the end he finished top 10%.
This module also highlighted how an instructor should act and instantly brought back of a memory of one instructor on my team that use to talk down to the students and be-little them because he felt superior. He was an ex British Special Force veteran and started his introduction showing all his medals he had received. Then drilled each person on information they have not yet been exposed to yet. If they couldn't answer he would yell at them and scare them. Obviously after witnessing one of his classes, I had to let him go, which was a shame because he was so knowledgeable and really was no need to act the way he did. Point being that you may now the information like the back of hand but how you are able to deliver it to learners makes a world of difference in how they receive it and retain it
