Hi David:
When teachers prepare and organize they demonstrate their commitment to their students by the time, effort, thought, and planning that goes (or not) into the delivery of a well designed presentation. The stuednts can tell, and theu'll tolerate a little laxity, but they'll also likely not be as motivated to do their best either.
