Chad, Your approach seems reasonable. Partial credit seems to work in some science and many math courses due to the multiple components a question may require. We have to be fair to all students, and I've had my best students get offended when they see their superior work diminished by classmates who boost their grade by EC, so, I just choose not to give it. What I have done is drop the lowest quiz score, and give a bonus "thinking question" on an exam. These adjustments are open to all students, and I feel it's a fair way to give some leeway in the grading process. Barry Westling
