I learned that the AI can be a useful tool to generate questions related to a specific subject for tests. With enough questions generated I can choose the most appropriate ones for the level of student I am instructing, and save the rest for later. I don"t have to think up all the questions, just sort through them.
So far, as a new teacher,(6 weeks), I have had great success tailoring my approach and presentation of the course material, by asking the students for their observations, even if abrupt or potentially offensive, so that i can continue to improve in a beneficial way for them and their peers. I told them to be honest and not afraid to hurt my feelings. I need to be better. Of interest is the way that the children's observations and suggestions closely align with the suggestions made in the ED125 course. I plan to make use of the hands on activity recommendation… >>>
I believe that a format using the different types of questions except for the essay, would properly assess if the instructor taught the subject at hand when teaching a trade. The essay may only be useful after the students gained rather extensive knowledge of the subject being taught.
Good questions take some effort to plan and execute, but the benefits to the learners are greater than the best worded lecture.
The flipped classroom is a great idea. It meshes well with the concept of beginning with an activity rather than a lecture.
I've learned the benefit of engaging students early on rather than simply giving a lecture on the topic at hand. Students are more likely to pay close attention and retain more information with a frame of reference for the discussion such as handling the tools required to accomplish the task. The students will then be better equipped to visualize what's being discussed even in the absence of a visual aid.
