Hi Luis Great points. Accredited schools can easily follow their accreditation guidelines. Great that your school revisits your IEP twice a year. And that when discussing school development you go beyond the IEP list. Best wishes Susan

HI Luis It all points to the importance of planning for success. Many ways to get there. A focus is on information gathering, getting the ideas of many people, the plan, methods for evaluation, and of course the buy in from everyone to implement the plan. Best wishes Susan

Great point, Patrick. That forum topic needs to be reframed. We have noted that schools do a good job of five year planning and develop many great ideas. They get excited and want to implement them all. Often it isn't possible to marshall the resources to do everything at the same time. So some prioritizing is helpful. There are no rules and rights with five year planning. Thinking ahead and planning the steps to get there is what is key. Best wishes Susan
Hi Patrick Great points. Good plans do need to be reviewed periodically. And there needs to be a process in place on how to make updates and changes. Ideally there is an advisory board or committee that is responsible for monitoring the plans once they are in place. At the very least plans can be reviewed at faculty and staff meetings. Plans have to be dynamic. Thanks for the comments. Susan

Hi Patrick Good points. Ask 10 people and there will probably be 10 definitions of brain storming. Brainstorming can be open ended and produce a lot of ideas as Nate's meetings did. Brainstorming can also be highly directed to address one issue or goal. Maybe brainstorming can be used for both situations. Start with open ended brainstorming to get as many ideas as possible. Then organize and priortize the ideas and work on them one at a time. In that way no ideas are lost. We've noticed that when an organization has a problem or needs a new direction, the… >>>

Hi Jackie Planning and goals are key to success. 5 year plans are essential. And great to involve as many people as possible to start. A budget is what will make the 5 year plan happen. As to advertising, we believe target marketing and website/internet marketing are the most effective and least expensive techniques. Lots to think about. Best wishes Susan
Hi Jackie Your situation describes many schools. The key is planning, organization, and creating checklists for each department. In this way some routine tasks can be given to non director level people. And administrators wearing too many hats won't get burned out. And who knows, staff could be trained to take on more responsiblities. Best wishes Susan
Hi Jackie These are great ideas. Keeping in touch with employers and also prospective employers yields many many benefits. They can give you feedback about your programs, be sources for job openings, and even send their employees to your school for training. Great techniques. Best wishes Susan

Hi James, You're right. A school needs a 3 to 5 year plan that can be constantly assessed and updated. 1 year planning is short sighted. Knowing your ideal student helps you target him or her. And you'll spend less on target marketing than blasting to everyone. And you'll discover how to frame your marketing to reach other targets. Best wishes Susan
Hi James Interesting dilemma. More students than space. Do you think some enrollment management and planning might address your future needs? What about addng satellite classrooms to handle current needs? Depending on regulatory requirements you can add satellite classrooms in locations within certain miles of your main campus. Let us know what you do. Best wishes Susan
