Activity

As a woodworking Teacher in my CTE, I am technically not a CTE Teacher. My class feeds the Carpentry 2 year program. I now feel inspired to go in the direction of teaching with the inclusion of Enterprise. I always teach with a goal of having my students make sellable / marketable items. I even include self-assessments the include a category of "would I buy this item?" I am now interested in having the students make a fictional business each semester with a name, business plan, and selling some items.

Productive struggle resulting in student agency is the theme I'm walking away with.

The descriptions of the tickets and engaging activities were better than many of the descriptions I've heard in the past. I was also interested in the concept of overlearning.

Learning for the sake of learning was the best sentence in the whole module for me.

I enjoyed learning terminology that fit what I was already doing like the conversation about metacognition, developing a common language among my students and ensuring productive talk.

In this module, I most liked the 5 effective trauma informed discipline strategies.

The responses to Trauma were the most useful portion of the reading in my opinion. Identifying students with trauma will be easier now.

I found the four F's of Trauma Responses to be useful. The 4 F's will make it easier to identify students who are suffering from Trauma.

Fight

Flight

Fawn

Freeze

In the last month, I've had two students with a parent who died of cancer. These students reacted very differently to the loss. One student with terrible behavioral problems got worse. The other is dealing very well.

The 11 steps to creating a simulated workplace were informative and simple to implement.
