About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Michael, Students love it when we get to the bottom line. I like to show them bottom line, but I also make them understand that it is a process to get there. Patricia Scales
Hi John, Students love it when we are personable with them yet professional! We have to let them know that we are human just like they are. Patricia Scales
Hi Sandy, I have found that students love having fun while learning. Students tend to retain the information if they are having fun while learning. A great mixture is to have fun while learing. After all, no one likes being bored. Patricia Scales
Hi Maryl, I love it! Field trips are awesome! Students get to see all the book theory that they have learned be put into action. A field trip makes the education solid in the student's mind. They can picture themselves working in a similar setting. What a great way to generate excitement from your students. I really like how you put a focus on your students' appearance. Patricia Scales
Hi Jean, I love how you are enthusiastic about what you teach. Excitement really and truly begins at the very top! The instructor's excitement can really be contagious. Patricia Scales
Hi Shivani, I concur! When students understand how the job will benefit them in their career they automatically buy into the program. Adult students need to and want to understand the benefit of taking the course. Patricia Scales
Hi Henry, Obviously, our students must have the theory in order to apply it. A great mixture is giving the students they theory and then letting them put the theory to the test by performing various hands-on activities. Patricia Scales
Hi Adam, Awesome! I love the idea of team/peer teaching. It is amazing how well some students can tech concepts to their peers. It certainly is great tactic for them to utilize their critical thinking. Patricia Scales
Hi Dahlia, I do a lot to keep these students busy. I like to give them leadership roles and make them helpers for me and to other students. They love being in the lime light. Patricia Scales
Hi Jerry, Try arriving to class early and making small talk with your students to help calm your nerves. You may even want to allow the students to introduce themselves to help with anxiety. Remember you are more knowledgeable than any of your students, you got this!!! Continue to believe in yourself and be prepared to help lessen anxiety. Patricia Scales
