I learned that just about everyone is "bad with names" and it's completely reasonable to have strategies and gimmicks to learn a class full of names. I actually thought about the picture method before it came up in the lesson but wasn't sure if that would be allowed. I was glad to hear when it did come up in the lesson, but I would still make sure to obtain everyone's permission to take a picture and make it clear that they can opt out if uncomfortable.

It emphasized the importance of having students who are intrinsically motivated. I plan to start by observing students first, always keeping in mind the balance of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Once a better understanding of individual students is obtained, a plan of action can be formulated. 

Comprehension is the lowest level of Blooms taxonomy. Evaluation is the highest. Create a project that tests students understanding of the refrigeration cycle. Then come back to the same project but this time have them evaluate it.

It really emphasized the importance of individual learning plans for each student. I am looking forward to focusing on learning as much as I can about everyone in class and motivating them to the best of my ability and theirs.

It's been too long since I attended community emergency response training than I want to think about but I find that world very interesting. So of course the parts that caught my attention were the mention of triage and the emergency game. Triage is just plain practical so using it to deal with classroom time pressure just makes sense. I love the idea of the surprise game being used to keep variety in the classroom. I want to design a 'who dunnit' style mystery in the same vein where students find "clues" incorporating practical labs that they have been learning… >>>

When I was a student at [school name] it was easy to connect with students I was tutoring because we were meeting as peers in the sense that I didn't have the burden of being an authority figure, so students would have no problem with being honest about gripes, opinions or anything else. What this taught me is that a great deal of preparation has to be put into encouraging and retaining a diverse group of learners.
