About me

My name is Dr. Romeo Pastor,RDCS,RDMS, Program Director of DMU at SBI-NYC. I started teaching ultrasound since 1987 when our school was still Ultrasound Diagnostic School. In my country (Philippines) I was a missionary doctor for 7 years in the mountains under the Franciscan Missionaries after which I finished 3 years of residency in Pediatrics, practiced for 2 years then came to US 1986.

Since we could not practice our specialty here unless we pass the exam for foreign graduates, I decided to enter into the field of Ultrasound and Cardiovascular Sonography.

For the past 24 years I have been teaching ultrasound and cardiovascular, I really learned to love the field. The success of my students gave me a lot of inspiration to continue teaching. I learned many things from them as they also learned from me. This is the only pride that came out from my humbleness and I really stand for it.

All the things that I've learned from this course is amazing. Starting from curriculum development, courseand syllabus preparation are all vital to the success of teaching effectively. The first day approach to a new class was well designed and realistic. In conclusion, everything that were suggested as a guide in teaching are awesome. I can't ask for more.

An honestly well-prepared lesson plan is definitely a good guide in teaching and most likely you don't get lost. You become spontaneous in teaching and you lessened the clearing of your throat when you move on.Students will consistently trust on your expertise and would really be thankful to be a part of your class. This is also a good motivation, making them feel that what they started is heading towards the right direction.I'm pretty sure this will also end up with good retention. They will be proud with their alma mater as well.

The main objective on the first day of class is to establish a professional type of rapport to your new clients.Introducing yourself must include years of services in the field, pride of telling them successful students in the field who were sitted in the same classroom,a promise not to stress their heart and body but still being able to learn what is expected of them, and giving them ideas how to get and maintain good grades and excellent awards in every module. When students introduce themselves,I stand close to them, exercise my sense of humor like associating their names withcelebrities, comparing their current… >>>

This is the angel in teaching. It is a perfect guide that will lessen a possible human stress in teaching especially a tough class of students. This guide will help you prepare your day to day of teaching without fear. You can also enjoy academic freedom if you want to add what is not in the outline but relevant to the topic of the day. In other words you can always add and never subtract from what is required of the course. What an excellent mathematics this is in teaching.

As an instructor these two roles are for me my priority on top on being the classroom manager. My students are aware that 15 minutes before the start of the class I'm already at my desk properly uniformed as teacher. For them to come on time their feedback is to leave their house earlier to have an allowance of time in case there are delays on their way to school. My class is always on time from start to end. I also write or speak to my students whom I think is slow in their progress of learning compared to… >>>

Motivation of students will result in better retention. As a teacher you should try to be an expert or knowledgeable to your field of teaching. Although there are rules and regulations to follow in school and in the classroom the teacher should understand situations that might affect student's attendance and progress. Support is necessary then,be emphatic. Motivate students by assessing their progress and acknowledge what they have accomplish by rewards like giving "A" grades and adding bonuses.

Knowing your students on the very first day of your class has an awesome result. Names,I usually associate with celebrity names;work experience,I usually compare it with their new chosen career and try to match a good relationship;family, those with children I usually honor the sacrifice they are making and for singles, the good future that the are preparing for especially when they will have their own family. This day is now the beginning with my close relationship with the students -up to the end. I combined well-prepared lecture and humor to maintain our good rapport and the outcome is,guess, good retention.

Very likely every student needs a certain type of support especially from the instructor. It is very important then for the instructor to learn more about the situational needs of,preferably all students in the class. For personal help needed ,a one to one talk is probably the best method; for social relationship problems,I think talking to the class and trying to blend them together in a friendly way and to suggest to each one of trying to understand each other in their own humble way. For external problems you can open yourself to answer calls from family and friends to… >>>
