Brandi, I agree that student buy-in is an issue. Of course that's an issue with any teaching method. If they refuse to do the reading prior to class that is a decision that will have consequences that aren't so good for their grade or their learning. It actually sounds like you are on the right track. My suggestion would be to check with some of your state's professional organizations and see if anyone is presenting on the flipped classroom. That might help with your implementation. Dr. Moody Crews
Philip, Good. Think about how you would use problem-based learning in your classroom to help your students learn how to take those skills outside the classroom. Dr. Moody Crews
Carrie, I agree. The instructor must stay current in their field and in their teaching. Dr. Moody Crews
David, You are correct. However, if this is the way your class is facilitated, the student will have to take advantage of it. Most students will realize that their learning is at the heart of your decision to use the flipped classroom model. Dr. Moody Crews

Carrie, I agree that student motivation and self-discipline can be a stumbling block. However, the ability to view the lectures at home before coming to class should actually help the students with their time management issues. Dr. Moody Crews
Philip, I agree that the DVD lecture series would be good as long as what you are doing in class follows the DVD. However, using prerecorded lectures that you create yourself would be a better fit because you know that the students are getting what you know they need. Remember, textbooks aren't created for your particular class. Instead, we do our best to make the textbook work with the curriculum we are required to teach. Dr. Moody Crews
Rhonda, I totally agree. Using case studies and scenarios are always good learning tools. Dr. Moody Crews
Carrie, Very good. All of these are excellent steps to take. Dr. Moody Crews
David, I agree. The financial limitations of some students is certainly something we have to consider as we decide how to facilitate our classrooms. Dr. Moody Crews
Philip, Good points. I've seen both ends of this in my classroom as well. Dr. Moody Crews
