Externships are great opportunities for educators to be introduced to new trends in industries that can influence their approach to teaching students in the classroom.

There are many options for students in planning for or actually staring a career following secondary education.  There are also options to achieve career goals that alleviate potential financial burden.

Learning about reverse career fairs was terrific. What a novel idea, and another opportunity for students to be launched in a career pathway. 

Essential questions help students to focus on the most critical things they need to know and do as part of their career development.

Using ICAPS is a great approach to identifying both education and career goals for students.  It also serves as a guide of sorts for keeping things on track and making adjustments as student awareness and interests change.

Career development for students needs to start at an early age, K-5, and move forward in a more in depth approach to awareness, interest and ability identification, preparation and i training.

Many of the theories presented have overlapping strengths and and conditions.  Likewise, the same for limitations.  It takes listening to students in career counseling situations to a new level, and how to make decisions in the approaches you will us on an individual basis.

The SCCT Planned Happenstance Theory and DYL Theory all have a place when working with students in career counseling and experiences.  The tough piece is to decide what approach to use with what student.  Brings to the forefront once again - the importance of relationship development with your students.
