About me

I teach high school business and marketing as well as sponsor DECA.

Case studies are a great way that I apply this in marketing with personal finance. I also use local experts in financial planning and insurance to speak to students on topics such as financial literacy and planning.

Personal finance and financial literacy is unique to each individual's goals, family situation and life experiences. It is important to teach from a lens without bias and to tailor the teaching to different learning styles.

Understanding how community partnerships can benefit the school and the industry professionals is important.

Working to get the middle school and elementary school involved is one thing I learned and found to be beneficial. The vertical alignment and having feeder courses can be super helpful but also very challenging to implement.

Using guest speakers, mentors and internships to support the community aspect of CTE is one thing I do and it is great to get more suggestions on how to implement that in my classroom. I also appreciate the information and reminders about clear communication. My district uses Parents Square which makes it easy for parents to receive communication in the way that works best for them.

The idea of using workshops for parents is interesting and something I have not thought of before. I think this could be useful in my course.

Getting student feedback on assessments is important and I want to try to implement that more often. I typically do it at the end of the semester and by then they probably have forgotten valuable feedback they could give me on a project or assessment.

The daily checkin is great. I use to do something like that in the past and I need to implement it again.

Keeping an open line of communication with parents is helpful. I also enjoyed reading about eliminating barriers. That is something I often forget to consider when designing assessment for my students.

Getting feedback early and often I find to be the best and most effective. That way, I can intervene early if something is not making sense for students.
