Activity

Technology may be a challenge that we deal with as instructors.  Our students may not have access to all the technology that we assume they may have to complete an activity.  Also, it is important to consider new ways of engaging the student on line and it is good to start with the outcome desired and then go back and see how that can be achieved in the activity or assignment the instructor is expecting the student to do.

A self directed course can be just as engaging as a synchronous course, but the expectation must be set from the beginning and a student must understand their responsibilities in asynchronous courses.

I learned the a rubric is more than a grading tool, but more importantly is a way for the student to stay on track and even assess themselves.

I learned that norm and criterion assessments are something I have used in the past, but have never really placed within a category of testing to assess my student's progress really from two different angles.

I learned that all three concepts on assessments have their place within the life cycle of a student and can really help the process of teaching and identifying problems before its too late.

I learned that there is a tracking tool in Work called Track Changes which could be very helpful in providing feedback on a written assignment.

I learned that it may be necessary to start all over in creating an on line course.  The F2F contents may not be used to deliver effectively on line.

I learned that to be a guide on the side there must be regular participation on both the side of the instructor and student.  I also learned that it is important to encourage participation and evaluate feedback often.

I learned that this on line teaching environment takes a lot of feedback from students and instructor.  It is essential to create an on line community that fosters feedback and that it is even OK to give extra credit to those students who provide feedback to other students questions.  It is also important to provide feedback to those who may dominate on line environments.

I have learned that consistency is the key to any on line teaching environment whether it be synchronous or asynchronous.  I also learned that I will use both environments because I will be teaching multiple classes simultaneously.
