Activity

To emphasize the high demand and high wage aspect of healthcare careers to my students. 

I learned from others submissions about integrating these skills with the community. Are there local shops or organizations that can directly contact my students to provide them with post high school opportunities? Do they partner with local college programs? It made me want to start looking at our local community college offerings WITH my students as an entire unit or few day lesson and get them thinking about what they need to do to accomplish these things.

I liked learning about the colorado's work based learning continuum. I feel as though I am already doing this but not exactly stating it as going about, then through, then at work pace. One area I want to improve on is the "learning at work" phase and finding more apprenticeships or internship opportunities for my students. 

Finding ways to get our students out into the community actually practicing these skills hands on or seeing these skills modeled in their job interest field is extremely beneficial .

Utilizing different personality baed tests and understanding your students interest can help you to curate a program that is more specifically designed for them and their future. Allowing your students to utilize their strengths and engage in learning in that specific way will be more meaningful to that student and will mean higher growth and potential from them in the future. Especially connecting it to post schooling goals that you know that student wants. Finding programs, units, or presentations that directly relate to get more buy in from your student(s).

Understanding students want and lifestyle preferences helps to gain buy in and student engagement. The process of students completing self reflections, personality and learning style quizzes, and having options of how they complete assignments.  

I will take this knowledge and have students try learning style quizzes and create career profiles to encourage more participation and student excitement about the work we're doing.
