After the first week of my class, I start off the next class by asking now how do you look at food and this career now. Then the stories & discussions begin. They are amazed what they have already learned in one week. This keeps the class motavated and wanting to learn more.

Give them a good laugh

Having a great sense of humor always revitalizes the class and promotes discussions. The first day I tell all the students. No matter how bad your day is, I will make sure you when you leave you will have a smile and a new outlook for that day. We all have great stories that relate to our career. Tell them. It shows the trials that they will face and hopefully be ready for them.

Helping the ones with ADD

I have noticed being in a tech scool we seem to have a lot of students with ADD and they will admit to it. Most of them seem to be the ones who want to learn by doing it right away. So how do I keep these ones interested in what I am lecturing and while doing a demo. They seem to be the ones running around in the class because they can not stay still. It can be distracting to the class. I do not want to embarrass them and I do not want to let them do what… >>>

Missing Their First Day of Class

I have notice there is always a few students who miss they first day. They end up being the ones who never go the extra mile or who just barley pass. How do you get through to these students. I tell them that if you start off with a bad imprssion or on the wrong foot you may never get caught up or you will be looked upon as the black sheep of the group. This is not only here at school but any were you go in life.
