About me

I have taught multiple levels in a BSN program in theory and clinical. I am currently full time in simulation lab.

I can see where arriving with previous knowledge of having taught this subject/course on ground would be a huge benefit to transitioning to Online. Was learning the technology for presentation of the class challenging? If so, how did you overcome it? Also, how much lead time do you need to prepare all these learning tools, for this course?

This week our sim faculty is immersed in mental health. After revisiting this learning module, I realize how much non-verbal communication is a part of our scenarios and how important therapeutic communication is in everything we do as nurses. Great review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course as it is very relative to the instruction we provide at our institution. Much of the material presented is applicable to what I do in simulation. One technique I plan on using is beginning with the end or outcome in mind. For example, in a course where we practice code blues I will begin with showing a clip of a perfectly run code blue (visual). Hands on (kinesthetic) instruction of CPR will follow on a mannequin. I will provide a written guide in colored paper and to evaluate their learning, I will create a crossword… >>>

I found this course educational and relevant to my workplace. My plan is to organize my files by scanning/uploading my course material and handouts to an electronic filing. This in turn should slim my hardcopy files and make locating materials much easier, in turn saving me time.

Since everything in here is so flexible depending on the students actions, there are many concepts that may be touched upon in a simulation scenario. I will begin using instructor notes to cover details of those concepts/topics that may come up. Also for time management, I will begin inserting the amount of time alloted for each portion of my simulation scenarios, in my lesson plan.

I plan to include more Socratic type of questions and allow more time for a response from students.

Is there an optimal and realistic amount of % of each style that should be used in each course?

Are there some subjects where a type of learning is not feasible?

I have recently transitioned from the classroom and clinical setting to simulation. So application is a bit different. I believe I can still apply some of the recommendations such as informing students of the outline for the day and expectations while in simulation. I will also provide a posterboard with the concepts we will be covering that they have learned that term as a guidelline
