Both asynchronous and synchronous learning have their advantages and disadvantages. Communication is essential for effective learning to occur whether online or face-to-face. There is more interaction and engagement with synchronous learning and the educator must be mindful to create activities and technology that foster active learning in the asynchronous environment.
It is important to effectively incorporate technology in the classroom to improve learning and then evaluate the technology by assessing learning outcomes. I also like the idea of the Stop, Start, Continue for student feedback.
