I was reminded of the importance of making each student feel included and part of the class. For this effective, on-going communication is needed.

I realize that it is important for both student as well as instructor to access the requirements to succeed in an online course. As an instructor to revise and make changes when needed, and to communicate as celarly and concisely to students what is expected and how they can do well in the course.

I learned that there are 4 aspects of the evaluation process: reactions, learning, transfer, and results.  Reactions indicate if the students enjoyed the course; leanring indicates how well the students learned the material; transfer indicates how applciable the material was to future outcomes; and results indicate how successful students were in the course.

Testing methods are exremely important to accurately access learning and if the course objectives are being met. Properly worded questions and a combination of different types of questions are needed, including subjective questions (e.g. essays). Feedback is important to explain to a student if a answer was incorrect and why.

I learned that summative assessment is very important to access that students have learned/comprehended and can link what they have learned to real-world applications. I think it is important for students to realize that what they are learning has value in the real world. If students make this connection, I think they will be able to take more of a personal responsibility for their education.

I learned the value of different types of assessments and to use a variety of types while teaching since students may learn differently.

I have learned that outside source of media and hosting are an important/necessary part of an online course. I have also learned about new sites that I did not know before.

Social networking tools should be an important part of online courses to engage students in the course material and also to build a sense of 'community' in the online classroom.

Hi,

The value of the rubric was emphasized. While I do this for assignments from students, I've never thought of using a rubric to have students complete one for peer-peer interaction or for group projects.

Hi,

I think one of the most important things I have learned in this section is to include more details as far as communication, discussion boards, etc in my course syllabus. For example, give more explicit directions on what to do and what not to do when responding to peers in the discussion board.
