About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Tate, I fully understand! Students with poor attendance can certainly be a challenge. At my institution, we have an attendance policy, and once they go over the attendance limit they are withdrawn from the course. Life happens, but students need to be in class to get the full effect. Hi Andre, I like the psychology here, "You are really going to get invovled." Students love it when we make learnining exciting. Excitement really begins witht the instructor. Patricia Scales

Hi Catherine, Listening is key! Sometimes our students just simply need someone to listen to them. Venting is really healing for some people. Patricia Scales
Hi Gary, Super! Call and respone is a good way to keep students on their toes and to check their level of understanding. Patricia Scales
Hi Frederick, Case studies are a great way to test learning. Students need to have as much practical learning in the classroom as possible so that when they get on the job things do not come as a surprise to them. Patricia Scales
Hi Linda, Listening is key! Students feel a sense of importance when we listen to what they have to say. It is a must to let students know up front exactly what is expected of them so that they are not in for any surprises. Patricia Scales
Hi Verna, Great tactics to use to deter cheating. If I feel I have a cheating student, I will purposely give every student the same test, and I casually watch this student if I am not paying closing attention, I catch the cheating student, and then the student is reprimanded. Patricia Scales
Hi Michael, Awesome practical experience! Our students love hearing our stories as how to how they apply the course content. Experience is certainly the best teacher. Patricia Scales
