About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Leah, I like this approach because students do not feel so overwhelmed. They get to apply what was just taught to them without having additional information that they do not need at that point. This type of approach helps with the retention of information as well. Patricia Scales

Hi Mary, Listening is key! When students present challenges that are beyond my scope, I too find experts to help them. Students want to be listened to, and they are looking for solid advice. Patricia Scales

Hi Jennifer, I have experienced students wanting information fed to them as well. Students have to realize even though they are paying students, we are not going to give them an education. They must earn their grades. Patricia Scales

Hi Erinn, I fully understand! Our students need to know how to be self dependent. On the job they will have to do for themselves, otherwise their stay on the job will be short lived. Patricia Scales

Hi Brent BK, You are definitely on point! Our Career Services gets involved early with the students, starting with the second week so that they can know what career opportunities are available if they graduate. Our Career Services meet with our students three times, at the beginning, in the middle, and the end of their education. Great retention tool! Patricia Scales

Hi Chrissy, Quality across the board certainly promotes better retention. Students know quality when they see it, feel it, hear it, and touch it. Students will stick around if quality is great. Patricia Scales
Hi Brandon, You are really getting your students ready for the real world. You know what it takes to be successful, and you are preparing your students accordingly. Patricia Scales
Hi Brian, What great insight! you are definitely on point. You certainly know how to deal with angry students. Patricia Scales
Hi Eric, Awesome and students are getting some fresh air at the same time! This is a super way to break the monotony of the classroom and using the dry board. I am sure your students enjoy this activity. Patricia Scales
