About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Alyson, Yes, you are definitely on point! Guest speakers are living evidence that the goal is achieveable. Patricia Scales
Hi Brenda, I agree! Students have to hear us all the time. It is nice when they can hear the same things we have been telling them from an outside professional. Great validation is added when guest speakers tell students what we have told them. Patricia Scales
Hi Aminata, I also like to make the learning apply to what they will be doing in the workplace. Patricia Scales
Hi Antonio, Some students really do like being in control, and they will certainly take ownership when they feel they have a say. Patricia Scales
Hi Alyson, I agree! This is a level of respect that should be established. When children refer to you on a first name basis they look at you more of a friend than an authoritative figure. Patricia Scales
Hi Rachel, You are right! Students need role models, they have enough friends. Patricia Scales
Hi Norman, Pure lecture the entire time can be boring as well as exhausting to the instructor and students alike. Active learning with some lecture is the way to go. Patricia Scales
Hi Rachel, I like how you have students sign a contract so that they feel more accountable. Patricia Scales
Hi Steve, Students get it when we make learning apply to their career. Patricia Scales
Hi Aminata, Awesome! Students need examples of real-life scenarios in the classrom as to how things will be in the workplace. Patricia Scales
