using soft techniques and learing about their generation. I took ED115 and used the techniques learned and low and behold, I find the course on gen-Y. That's next for me. 

 

When it comes to generation differences, I find common ground.  I set examples that everone can relate to.  This would include current events that might carry history.  This way the newer generations can relate to the newer news and the older generations can comment on the historical materials of the subject.

Though I am relatively new to the field of collegiate teaching, sometimes I reminisce on how my traditional college classroom setting had a certain aura about it; and if asked to describe what it was which gave this personification to it, then I would say, the stories, experiences shared through the professor but more importantly the way it was told, with excitement and vigor.  As a retired military serviceman, I have tried Stanley’s notion and several others, though sometimes in the military class they may have felt captive.

I often feel that arriving 5 minutes before class starts already feels late for an instructor.

I try to make all my classes fun to attend.

I think it is a sign of the times when someone will respond to a facebook message before they will a text or voice mail message. I'm old fashioned but have learned/learning what different students respond to.

Being well versed in all modes of communications is essential

What are some ideas for teaching students that come from completely different generations?

What strategies have other's used in reachign out to online students who are constantly submitting assignments in late????
