The Philippine society has been plagued by false beliefs. One of them, making your job, your life, and always going the extra mile... for a job where you are replaceable.

Teachers in the Philippines, from both public and private schools are overworked. Apart from teaching duties, giving lessons, creating plans and exams, they are bombarded with administrative work, extra curricular work, "baby sitting" work, and all other things teachers had to endure since time immemorial. Still, they remain to be in one of the most underpaid professions.

Working beyond office hours, teachers literally spend at least 70 percent of their… >>>

As a career soft skill, people must always know how to assess themselves. Apart from knowing our strengths and weaknesses, we must know the impact we have on others, and always live by an ethical standards.

Knowing your abilities and limits will enable teachers like us to know which to skills to teach and which to work on, so that we can be better facilitators of learning. Sometimes, students may be better in some areas like technology. We must accept our weaknesses and improve on it.

As teachers, students see us as role models. As such we must always keep… >>>

Rarely do I get burnt out in my current job but in my past jobs I have experienced burnout several times. This was caused by working so many extra hours due to the large workload.  Having to get a high dollar job done to make payroll, pay taxes, ect. Overtime is where the money is at. I have 3 daughters (all grown up now with families of there own) and raising 3 children is not cheap. I took the extra hours to pay for the added expenses. I missed more games and recitals than i would have liked. You can't… >>>

I started a full time job when I was 19. I learned quickly it was best to get along with my boss. I've had good bosses and bad bosses. A good boss is easy to get along with most of the time but the bad boss, therein lies the problem. I learned to keep my answers short and to the point, get a feel for the his mood and do my job to the best of my ability to avoid as many issues as possible. By doing this I made my time with the bad boss bearable avoided quitting a… >>>

I was fortunate to have a father who taught us personal and work ethic along with a sense of humility. Be proud of your work. It will speak for itself. Having been taught personal ethics made it easier to make ethical work decisions which I face on a weekly basis. My plan is to continue applying what i have learned to keep my choices ethical, to be an example to my students and fellow instructors.

The lesson reiterated what I have seen in the good leaders I have encountered in my life. It is a very powerful behavior -  to act how you would like to be treated.

I found out that one way to help release stress at a workplace is to use the 15 minute breaks for a quick stroll around the building or block. Take in deep breaths and exhale slowly with eyes closed.

I took from this to show a more positive practice at work (be on time, have a good attitude, analyze problems thoroughly) and to set Specific goals to better improve self at work.

Put yourself and your family first.  A job will never love you.

In today's work place, I think the only people who are aren't stressed are people who are just starting in their careers or people at the end of their careers.  I think everyone else is tapped out.
