I try to teach in a variation of learning styles. I know that not every student learns in the same way. I learn best in a couple of different styles, auditory, and kinetic. I think that by listening to lecture and participating in class discussion can allow for greater memory retention. I also think that hands on learning allows the students to become excited about what they will be doing in their chosen field, and thus makes them want to learn.

I always enjoyed the first day of classes. It lets the students know who you are, and also give you an insight on who they are, what concerns they have and it also allows them to make new friends of their classmates. I also like that when going over the course requirements it allows the students to ask any questions that concern them about the course.

I am a new instructor but have worked for the company for 3.5 years as an assistant. It is very different to be in charge of the class and know all of the material. I am still getting my footing on becoming a well versed instructor. I have assisted other instructors and have seen many different teaching styles. I try to incorporate what I have seen from them and also the best way that I learn new material so that I can provide the best atmosphere for my students. I am finding this material very helpful. I understand that if you have someone who is physically disabled we should not sway them away from a program. But if it is going to be difficult for them to perform daily tasks that involve physical activity is that fair to accept them into the program anyway?

When reading the section on learning disabilities I noticed that some of those may apply to me. Is it possible that everyone may have some sort of disability. For myself I noticed that I have trouble with concentration, When studying or taking a test I have to be in a room that is completely quiet, I get distracted easily, or I do not notice spelling issues sometimes. This section made me think a little bit about that, but while knowing this about myself I also can relate to others who have distraction problems.

I seen someone applying for a Medical Assistant Program about a year ago. The person was in a motorized wheelchair. Would it be discriminatory to see about trying to see if she would fit better in another program? My hat is off to them for wanting the education, and everyone is entitled to an education, but the physical demands of the career path would be very difficult for them. We would definitely have a hard time placing them for externship or even a position after graduation.
