This module reinforced that an effective assessment should measure what students were actually expected to learn and should be connected to the objectives of the lesson. Students do not all learn in the say way or at the same pace. Using only one approach may not work. I plan to break down my projects into manageable steps, provide demonstrations, as well as written instructions, and give students opportunities to use different methods to demonstrate their skills.

Mental health disabilities can affect students ability to learn, participate, communicate, and manage the demands of the classroom. Focus on student's needs and behavior without making assumptions. I intend to be supportive while maintaining a respectful classroom environment.

Learning disabilities can affect students in different ways and a student who struggles with one type of task may still be very capable in other areas. I will provide clear instructions, breaking down complex tasks into manageable steps, check for understanding, and present information differently when necessary. I want to recognize student's strengths and give them opportunities to demonstrate what they know.

Physical disabilities can affect students in different ways and the biggest challenge is not always the disability itself. Sometimes it's the barriers in the learning environment. I intend to apply this by paying more attention to the physical layout of my classroom and making adjustments when needed. I also want to look for ways to adapt projects or equipment when needed while still allowing students to develop the skills they need in the workplace.

This helped reinforce the importance of understanding my legal responsibilities when working with students with disabilities. Providing appropriate accommodations help ensure students have access to instruction in a meaningful way and demonstrate what they have learned. I want to make sure that accommodations provide access to learning without unnecessarily changing the skills or expectations students are being asked to demonstrate.

This module helped me better understand that disabilities can affect students in various ways. I learned that my teaching approach may not work for every student.
