William and Le, You both bring up some very good points. We do learn from our experience and from the feedback from students. And, thanks to these posts, we learn from each other here. Thanks!
Patricia, This would be a bad mistake. If the students can't understand the expectation from the rubric, the rubric if flawed. Thanks!
Scott, Managing and explaining expectations. The more the students understand the expectations, the better. I do thing there is more consistency in grading when rubrics are used. Thanks!

Keisha, Many roles indeed. And, rubrics do help both the students and the instructor. I like that you are emphasizing self-assessment through the use of the rubrics as well. Students need to do that. Thanks for your input.

Keisha, Good point about noting we have to expand our understanding from inside the classroom to outside as well. You're right in that's it's our goal to help students be successful. Nice job.
Keisha, Timeliness, frequency and clear guidelines all lead to a pattern of communication. Also, when we develop this pattern and serve as a role model in the communication process, most students will follow suit. Thanks!
Keisha, Ease of Use; Help & Support; and Instructor Familiarity --> You hit the nail on the head. We have to be able to use the technology, get support when we can't figure out what to do and rely on the instructor to be able to effectively use it as well. Thanks for your input.
Ron, For sure. If the communication tools are not easy to use - and used - we can't reap the benefits from the communication process. Thanks for your input.
Vicki, Good point. Having students involved in the development of assignments is a good thing too, but it can lead directly then into the development of the rubric to assess the assignment. That would go hand in hand. Thanks for your input.

Amy, Just like everything else in our courses, we have to evaluate everything and revise accordingly. Rubrics are a part of the process. nice job.
