I really love the idea of student mentors and have tried to start as well as facilitate programs like this online. I find it hard with the online population (either the mentee is not very communicative with the mentor or all parties involved aren't very invested). I'm curious if anyone has had success with a student mentor program online?

I just finished this course and it was refreshing to gain new information and perspective on the topic of assessment. There were many great ideas shared which could be easy to incorporate into the online classroom, especially those kinds which can be placed in a discussion. In the online classroom, it seems the course and assessments are already in place but these are great ideas to incorporate more on an individual basis or even recommend during course revisions.

@stallings : I agree, motivating students is a challenge. I find that even with adult learners who are motivated to learn, a challenge in the process can completely derail them and cause them to lose their motivation. It's as much about what is happening in the classroom as what is happening in their surrounding environment as well.

Hi Jackie! I just completed the course as well and agree with you about the information we received for best practices. Though we are often given courses which are set up for the online instructor, one of the takeaways for me was just how much we can do to add to the classroom, without making it harder on the student. I felt like I got some great new ideas that I can implement into the classroom!
