Students have to first buy into the course at the beginning and it is especially difficult if you are teaching a course that is not part of the core curriculum of the student's major. The instructor in those cases needs to motivate students to become engaged in the learning objectives by connecting their career choice to and applying it with real-world examples of how that class will increase the chances of success in their chosen career field.

As a certified teacher from Pennsylvania and a mother of a student who was diagnosed with an auditory memory learning disability. I can tell you from personal experience that many factors can be attributed to how well students perform in the classroom. It is the teacher primary objective to ensure that everyone student in the classroom has an equal chance to learn and achieve the lesson's learning objectives. By the way, I am so proud of my daughter because she is now a teacher and has overcome her own disabilities and is actually certified to teach learning disabled children!

Students from different cultural backgrounds bring their customs and value systems into the classroom. From an instructor's viewpoint, all of the language variaatins and slang are important to consider especially when students are required to communicate in classroom participation and on essay types of assessment tools. All students should be heard as long as no one ethnic group is claiming superiority over another.

I believe that when grouping students together it is crucial that you ensure that all students are assigned roles and contribute as equally as possible. Otherwise, the group dynamics will not allow for student engagement in the activity.

As a computer applications instructor, I find that it is necessary to roam about the room to not only ensure student comprehension of the computerized process, but to keep all students on the task at hand.
One of the courses that I currently teach is Psychology. The one chapter that I really emphasize in the book is the one concerning stress management and coping skills. Students need to understand primarily how to management their time and secondly how to cope with the issues that interfere with doing well academically. I also try to convince students that once this is achieved that every other stressor in their lives can be handled in a similar fashion.

Even if an instructor has taught the class many times previously, it is always a good idea to decide whether or not the course materials are still up-to-date and utilize innovative instructional methodologies.

I believe that many instructors feel the need to get things done yesterday. It should be in our nature to always be thinking of priorities in past, present and future deadlines. Sometimes this innate need exstinguishes our ownership over how to creatively accomplish tasks.
I was able to take what I learned from this course and consider it for future lesson plan strategies. My degree in education also assisted me in taking the assessments.
I found the ED103 course to be very effective. I especially learned a great deal by listening to the professors explain how they utilize various assessment techniques in their classrooms, as well as, what worked and didn't and how to determine what types of assessments to use.
