When I draw a picture of myself as a learner, there's nothing in it that resembles a learning facilitator who is responsible for helping me learn. My experience as a student was one of being fully responsible for my own learning - if I failed to progress, blame was put on my not having done the work or not having studied well.

This was a highly motivated student, committed to their own success. Turned out that they did just fine within the normally allotted time. However, many of their fellow classmates were clearly suffering from their own difficulties, but there seemed to be no formal awareness or remedy in place.

I appreciate the essence of the "learning facilitator" approach (versus "teacher"), but I am frustrated by what appears to be a culture of "do it for me".

When I draw a picture of myself as a learner, there's nothing in it that resembles a learning facilitator who is responsible for helping me learn. My experience as a student was one of being fully responsible for my own learning - if I failed to progress, blame was put on my not having done the work or not having studied well.

	<div class="river_content_display"><p>I have only ever had one student approach me with official paperwork regarding their learning disorder. It indicated that I was to allow extra time for the student when taking an exam.

This was a highly motivated student, committed to their own success. Turned out that they did just fine within the normally allotted time. However, many of their fellow classmates were clearly suffering from their own difficulties, but there seemed to be no formal awareness or remedy in place.
