I would suggest checking into the PARW site and becoming a Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) It was a very helpful tool to help  me think through writing resumes and why I write them the way I do. When I took it you had to take a short quiz and then write a resume based off of information they provided. You also write a cover letter and justification letter explaining why you wrote it like you did.

To answer the question about what I enjoy about the industry, it would be the interaction with the students and graduates. Seeing the light come on, hearing the joy in their voices when they get offered the job and being someone they want to tell about their successes. I have graduates from several years ago who still report their successes to me as the climb the career ladder.… >>>

I also work for a for-profit and have been a Career Services Professional for a little over 12 years so welcome to the field. We utilize a resume worksheet that we created to get the basic information about the individual, course they are attending, employment history, volunteer work, certifications and skills so that we can build a resume for a starting point. I agree, it is difficult to get graduates to respond sometimes. I have called, emailed and texted for a year before finally hearing back from some. Makes it tough to gather the information needed. I do however enjoy when they do answer and we can catch up, hear their successes, encourage them if they are frustrated etc...
