About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Jorge, Students know exactly what is expected of them when they have an example to go by. Patricia Scales
Hi Sharon, I have seen the same thing take place. Some students are easier to get blood from because they have bigger veins while others are extremely difficult to get blood from because of having smaller veins. Patricia Scales
Hi Lacey, You live and learn! Documentation is key! I give students with they earn, and I can always show them their grade in black and white. Good recordkeeping is a must. Patricia Scales
Hi Nancy, Absolutely, it is hard to not let our emotions come in to play when it comes to enforcing rules. Some of our students have such sad stories, however we must be consistent to be fair to all. Patricia Scales
Hi Lisa, I love both methods. I let my students demonstrate specific task as well on the LCD projector. We have a lot of fun when the students demonstrate. I have some students who like emulating my teaching tactics...very funny! Patricia Scales
Hi Michelle, Monotone never works to capture one's attention. You have to change your voice pitch to engage students. Patricia Scales
Hi Angela, Generally, it works to reel a student back into the lecture by asking them a direct question. Patricia Scales
Hi Mary, It is good to pull the students into the lecture/discussion by asking them to share pertinent information. Patricia Scales
Hi Rhonda, Students get it when we can apply the course to their career. Students want to know how they are going to benefit. Patricia Scales
Hi Chad, Students gain a better understanding when they have a visual to go by. Patricia Scales
