Activity

A student can claim they are bored as a defense mechanism before they even start a course. An instructor can intentionally design a course that is more active to encourage students with a bored mindset to interact with the content.

Passive learning is an important part of the learning process.

The student has to take ownership of their own learning, otherwise everything is content or instructor-driven.

While a student may opt-out of Directory Information, they are still required to provide their name when participating in an online course, such as submitting a weekly discussion board post. Students are not able to post anonymously in an online course.

Students who work at an institution where they are also receiving education must still go through the correct channels and request access to view their own records.

When publishing a commencement announcement or honor's list, it is important to remember the student's that have chosen to opt-out of having their directory information listed and remove their name and information from the announcements.

It is important to note that not everyone at the institution has the right to access a student's information and that only certain individuals can share that information with a student.

It is important to be selective when providing resources to students. If it is not certain that the resource is needed for the required learning outcome, do not provide it to the student "just in case".

We should provide feedback even to students in are successful course, in order to keep them engaged and motivated. This is also a way to communicate to students that their hard work is being recognized.

It is important for instructors to be skilled in time management just as it's important for a student to manage their time well. Time management is one of the most essentials pieces for online teaching and learning.
