I found this information interesting and important to understand, as I have lots of PSEO students in my classrooms. I am wondering if anyone has had any issues with parents of PSEO students? Also, I have had parents of adult (older than 18) call much more in the past few years than ever before. Have you seen an increase in this "helicopter" parenting style with students?

I keep almost all my emails for at least two years. This system helps me if I have repeat students and can look back at past conversations and excuses that may have been used for failing the course the first time, or any issues the student had. Good record keeping is a must.

I have different strategies for low engagement courses, but one of the primary ways is to go through a sequence of connections to the student. I start first with an email, followed by a text message, then a phone call and finally report the student to either the advisor or Dean, depending on what kind of system the school has available.  I like using video text messages, those usually get the best response.

This module showed the importance of asynchronous discussions and how to facilitate them appropriately.  I haven't done an online synchronous discussion, but I can see now why these would not be beneficial.  I like having the video option at some of my other schools I teach at and think this should be implemented more because it makes it feel more like a community classroom.

How do you all engage students who struggle with time management and procrastination? I know I have lots of students who end up completing their assignments an hour or less before they are due and I can tell the work is rushed. Any tips on helping students understand that procrastination, especially online is a poor habit?

This section has valuable insights on how to create relationships with students online so they feel your presence as an instructor. I do my best to connect with students, but I could do a better job at sending out reminders.  I do feel through the use of video messaging, and quick, detailed responses, my students know I genuinely care about their success.

I do my best to use all of these tools in my own online classrooms. I really like that Concorde has the course pre-designed for all courses, so students have that consistency that is valuable for online success.
