I learned that institutions are allowed to release information they have defined as Directory Information but that they must disclose what they consider as Directory Information and allow students to opt out of releasing this information. 

I've learned what FERPA is and how it protects the rights of students seeking a copy of the records, an amendment of their records, and control of information disclosure regarding their records.

Most, if not all, of this information is common sense to most people. Unfortunately, laws and policies are created because of the people who victimize other people for their own gratification.

Title IX and the VAWA are laws that were enacted to protect people from sexual harassment, sexual discrimination and gender-based violence. The focus is within educational settings including admissions, programs, athletics and employment. I intend to adhere to these laws by identifying and reporting misconduct in a confidential manner.
