Hello, I am Patrick, My background has been the USAF for the last 25 years in the medical relm. In the Air Force as a senior Master Sergent, you will teach on a daily bases in one form or another. Teaching at concorde is an interesting transition from mil medical to civilian medical. So I learn as I go.

I totaly agree, I teach a medical office administration class and the students must use a ton of books with the current lesson plan. I would love if some one could create a paralel LP to be used on the electronic side. (I hate killing trees). Any thoughts?
I have many spanish speaking students ( I do not speak Spanish). I have buddied them up with bilingual students and offer tutoring. I find that the bilingual student helps the Spanish speaker understand the material. It also helps the bilingual learn the material better. I have also noted that the ai (assistant instructor) learns to become more of a leader within their class/ peers/ group.
One issue I have noted is I am British and served 30 years in the US forces. I was raised by gens Vet and Boomers. We were low income in England and didn't… >>>
I tell all my students that the "end goal is to take care of my patients" and they should look at their peers as parts of the same care giving team. I want them to always look at each other as a support group to help them when needed. My graduates stay incontact even if they are working in different companies, they share ideas and have all stated that they are each others support. It has worked for me so far.... Please do it.
I have simular concerns, I have been told that we should use our company txt/ e-mail to students so that it can be tracked. I also make sure that only appropriate dialog is used. I also set up a business facebook account that allows students to contact me but I do not "friend" them untill after they have graduated. I also edit that site as needed. I think this will help the student to have a place to contact/ convers without all the spam, embarasing pictures/ or unwanted content. The other nice thing about this is my private life is… >>>
I am a big fan of simulated learning within the classroom. I think that if we replace the books with ipad (type) equipment- we can save money and resources that are currently used. I also beleive that the e-learning sites can enpower the instructor to explore areas that we currently cannot. Non english speakers should be able to attain the information and ideas faster and more compleately than the current way. IE what is more important to you? A medical technician that can perform a life saving task well but cannot spell the words correctly. Or a medical technician that… >>>
Break the video into smaller segements, pause after each segment and have a round robin on how each student interprets the segment. With todays youths you may find 10 different spin offs for each point you give. IE: was Benadict Arnold a good guy or bad. You may find 5 different opinions all within the same group of students.
I have learned thru many years in the medical world , that truth is stranger than fiction. I find that using real stories of past patients helps students relate to the example at hand. Some of the senireios in the material become mundane and the students lose interest. I preempt all my examples with the fact that this is a reals story and they seem to provide more attention and find it easier to relate.
Sounds dumb, but I have never used a blog, twitter, or any onther social media. I do not know the benefits, detraments or concepts. So if anyone wants to help me with this I would like some insite.
Just finished RT101 and RT102, I think the retention problem need to be addressed within our schools. So, I am glad I started the RT to see what can help.
I agree with statements made. My students are important to me, because as I explained to them "My aim is to help you become the best MA you can, because one day you may the one to take care of me". So I can help them to become the best or face the care of someone that "just passed a course"
The other MA instructors have the same desire for the students and I think it shows through them upon graduation.
