Once again, so much to think about!  One cannot simply transfer face to face learning to an online format.  The instructor needs to find the right technological tools to not only communicate content but one that matches with their teaching stlye and makes it easy for students to access.

Communication is the key to creating an appropriate learning environment for both student and instructor.  The students need to know what the expectations are and how they should be met.  Because of my own style I prefer a combination of sychronous and asynchronus learning environment.  I am more of a face to face learner as well as educator.

There are many different technology tools available for an instructor to use.  It is important to match the tool with your teaching style in order to create a "good fit" for both students and instructors.  It is important to not only reflect om and identify your style but to be very familiar with various tools that will fit, do not settle for just looking at one, choose to look at a variety of tools available.

In order to assure a quality learning experience for students it is important to have multiple evaluations of the course.  Stakeholders, educational colleagues as well as student evaluations are all important to consider when revising a course.  A course needs to be evaluated each time to ensure the learning experience is relevant and meets industry standards. It also needs to be evaluated to ensure students are engaging in a course that is relevant to their learning style.

Providing effective feedback to students enhances their learning and allows them to deepen their understanding of a topic.  I really like the idea of peer or self review before students turn in a final assignment, it allows students to develop a deeper understanding of the expectation and if it is peer reviewed it encourages interaction among students.  I will be adding that as a component of many future projects.

Developing a logical, comprehensive syllabus is of vital importance to students successfully managing online learning.  I really appreciate the point that student should be learning using the technology not learning how to use the technology.  Clarity of a syllabus is key.

Consistency, consistency, consistency!  It is important to creates lessons that are in a consistent format so students will have easy access to databases, videos, etc. This will reduce wasted time, reduce stress, and allow for students to be independent once they understand the format.

There are various reasons why a student may choose to drop out of the course. By keeping in regular touch with the student and offering support you amy facilitate their continuation.  In my opinion, it comes down to maintaining personal communication with your students and getting to know them. Organizational skills of the instructor are also vitally important. The instructor should be aware of their own learning style in order to create a smooth learning experience.
