My name is Norwood Walker (yeah I know I have two last names), and I am a lifelong learner who likes to share what I have learned. My 42 years in education cover English, humanities, and history classes from grade 7 to second year college. I love dogs and currently have three.

It has been my experience in teaching classes of diverse learners not only in generations, but in other areas, is to establish a tone of mutual respect and importance of everyone in the class. I talk to them about building a sense of community and in that any community they are all kinds of roles, jobs, talents, and personalities that must find a way to co-exist with each other. Humility and a servant attitude has proven very helpful to me along with a sense of humor. Humor, respect, and a genuine interest in students as individuals can overcome a variety… >>>
With technology showing no signs of slowing down, what is going to be the best thought on reaching the next generation after GEN Y? I am beginning to see more divides not in members of different generations in the classrooms, but in members of the same.
The more varied and paced the presentation of the content the higher rate of retention. Also experience is the best teacher. Always be willing to try something new.
I try to create a sense of community among the students in my classes from the first day. In a community there is a sense of interdependence and working for a common cause while supporting each other as individuals. I think all learners need to feel a sense of input in the learning environment, and I tell mine if there are going to act like sponges during the semester, some point and time prepare to be squeezed...
Well planned lessons are essential to any class, but it takes more than planning.
