I learned that you need to use more than one tactic to engage online learners. 

I have learned that students need to be organized and accountable to timelines to work well in the online coursework. It is essential for a instructor to be available for student and have a reasonable turnaround time to questions. 

I learned that e-mail is preferred for counseling. It is important to be supportive, realistic, and positive. 

Instructors need to make it a priority to have discussions throughout the course. Allot times so students will be able to participate. 

It is important to have an online presence to support students. Online learning requires additional technical support. 

I learned that having an understanding of what technical issues may frustrate the students is important. Bening able to problem solve with students would make learning go more smoothly.

In delivering the course content it is important to create a syllabus that lists course objectives and expectations. 

It is a good idea to calm the nerves on day one. Go around the class and take turns sharing something about each other. 

It is helpful to arrive early to class to warm up a bit. Greet students, make sure you can pronounce names correctly, and talk about any topic. That way you can be relaxed when you start on time. 

I have learned that you need to model professionalism in the way you dress, speak, and prepare yourself for class. Being prepared and unrushed is essential. I learned you will loose your students if you try and prove to them that you are the smartest in the room.
