About me

Activity

Students using technology while learning has the added bonus of mastering needed skills used in the workplace. These students will be able to function in a professional environment and will have greater capability on career day one.

We can accommodate learning preferences by using varied presentation methods and allowing alternative methods to complete tasks or assignments. We can accommodate learning challenges by following outlined accommodations or individual educational plans for students who have learning challenges.

to me, language as a reflection of culture means using someone's verbal and/or written communication to understand more about the individual's culture.

Race, among other things, indicates the color of one's skin while culture reveals so much more about the individual. We may have many students in our class from the same race who have very different cultures.

Student learning history or schema impacts how the student perceives and learns new material. Treat all students as individuals and squash any gender-based humor so all students understand it's not welcome in the learning environment.

Many strategies and methods were discussed to engage different generational cohorts. Examples include the Socratic Method, Critical Thinking, Being Heard and Guide on the Side. All are effective and enhance student-centered instruction.

The use of technology enhances learning for Gens X, Y and Z and can focus on business tools they will use in the workplace, however, using technology just for the sake of using technology adds no value. The use of technology should be planned to meet educational objectives and build desired skills.

all generational cohorts can learn from all teaching methods, but when the going gets tough, select a method that aligns with the generational cohort to have the best outcome

Understanding how life experiences influence learning preferences allows instructors to better serve or connect with learners. We have students in our classes from boomers to gen Z, so we need to use teaching methods that support each generational group.

Intrinsic and extrinsic aren't words I use daily so remembering the definition of each is somewhat of a challenge. Bets to use intrinsic motivation most frequently while using extrinsic motivation more sparingly. I like the gamification concept as learning should be fun for the instructor and students.
