About me

For those of you who may want to have some basic information about me, I have been employed in higher education for more than fifteen years, teaching at a community college, and part-time at a local university in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to my teaching career, I was employed as a police officer for ten years, assigned to patrol duties and traffic enforcement. Moreover, I am a licensed attorney in Texas.

My educational background represents an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing and resolving issues. I have earned undergraduate in political science, criminal justice, sociology, and graduate degrees in interdisciplinary studies, political science, criminal justice, sociology, a Juris Doctor in Law, and an advanced law degree LL.M. in comparative and international law.

Transparency

I think the transparency aspect of the training should make clear that within the next 5 to 10 years there may be a substantial change in higher education, especially for online education. I suspect that the number of online universities and or degree programs will no longer be in business as the U.S. Depart. of Education imposes greater scrutiny and requirements.

If you have an interest in international organization, I would recommend the Organization of American States (OAS). The OAS web page is a comprehensive suite that covers a number of public policy areas. I have used some of the information to write journal articles.

Military students

That is unfortunate, but with multiple deployments, low morale, and knowing that we may have another cut in defense, it can be difficult to engage lower ranking military personnel.

Online Learning

Teaching online can be challenging, some students may be set ion their opinions and they are very difficult to motivate to explore other ideas or viewpoints. I try to address both or multiple sides to public policy issues as they relate to political science, law or our justice system.

I could not agree more but the management of a college or university that is online must be at the forefront of honesty with students and faculty in terms of compliance with federal regulations and disclosure of employment opportunities. But it is not just online universities, you may find a dozen law school close within the next decade because they are unable to put all of their graduates to work or place them.
