Planning scaffolding support the: –Establishment of learning goals –Plan to achieve goals –Development of strategies for effective learning and management

It is important to have proper alignment between curse goals, tasks, and learning tasks. to ensure that everyone involved is aware of the expectations. Both instructors and students should have a consistent understanding of what is going to be taught and how it will be evaluated.

  1. Start Communicating Early & Use Visual Tools.  Provide your biography along with a picture of yourself before classes get started; this will help the students put a face to a name and get to know you a bit. You may also opt to create a personal video or audio so students may actually “see” you. This is an excellent way to get the ball running, begin bonding with your students, and have everyone “excited” to start the process of learning.
  2. Offer Students Multiple Ways of Contacting Instructors Whether via messages (LMS messages function), email, text, or phone

I think it would be great to incorporate blogging into our online curriculum by:

having students keep an online journal, create blogging assignments around current events, turn student blogs into multimedia research projects, using blogs as portfolios, and setting up online study guides for students.

Since we try to post daily announcements for the online students geared towards class to career path, i would use Linkedin as a microblogging tool. LinkedIn is a social media platform geared towards business professionals, but it nonetheless has a powerful microblogging arm. Not only can you use LinkedIn's publishing functionality to post articles, but you can also use status updates for short-form microblogs. With these status updates, you can share a photo, video, event, or link... or you can choose to publish something longer form. Everything you share or engage with can then be found on your profile under… >>>

Students are using various online tools to cater to different requirements. It will not be wrong to say that social media and education goes hand in hand in the modern world.

I feel it is important to utilize various teaching tools to help the student engage in class and better understand the material. This generation is tech savvy, so feel incorporating social media within the course will attract the student even more

Low engagement is a challenge to many issues in online learning. It is important to create a learning experience that will be engaging for the students. Take time to understand their interests, strengths and where challenges lie. Utilizing this information will foster and online classroom management plan that is tailored to our students and provide multiple opportunities for interactive learning.

Focus on relationships first. Relationships are the most important element of any learning format, but they are especially critical when students are online, because students can feel disconnected from the course and isolated from each other if they are not tended to.

Being present in your online class is not only about good practice and supporting student learning and engagement.  Instructor presence and communication is what makes the difference between a class being categorized as a distance education class v/s a correspondence course. Being actively involved in your online class will promote student success. While online classes provide students with more flexibility and new ways to collaborate, success in the online environment is directly related to how present and engaged the instructor is in the virtual classroom.
