About me

I have been in the Health Information Management field for over 30 years, a full-time Health Information Technology Instructor for a whole year already, prior to that a part-time adjunct faculty in the same field. I recieved my Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management at The College of St. Scholastrica located in Duluth, MN. I completed 90 percent of all of my education online and love the online programs. I love the flexibility that it gave me to juggle family life and a full-time job. I am a traveling Medical Coding Consultant and can take my online classed with me where ever I go. Teaching, working and being an a student has been both challenging and rewarding at the same time. I have and will continue to enjoy being an educator in this field. It really does bring both of my passions together. Being a life long student and educator as well as an expert in the field of Health Information Management, however, everyone knows that time is forever changing old processes to new processes. Which makes us life long students.

When I want to make sure they are getting the concept(s) as just discussed, I would ask questions for them to reflect on what we just talked about, this lets me know as an instructor which part they actually got and which part they actually missed, then I would reinforce the issue.

I think that is a great idea. When I notice some of my students not particpating I would sometimes change the subject or task which seem to become an effective engagement process.

Working with challenging students

I have found during my experience with challenging students, some either forgot or did not get the ground work or they have forgotten the necessary concepts that are needed to be applied to the current task at hand. Therefore, they become frustrated and challenging.
