Has anyone ever taught a combination online/ground-based/flipped classroom? I teach computer graphics and find the students just want to jump into the computer work without listening to any background lecture or explanations. My thoughts are to have the "lecture portion" online, and the computer lab work done in the classroom.
We use Blackboard, and I post the background material before the class. Students are responsibile for reading the material before they come into the classroom to work on the labs. But will they read the material and properly prepare? That is the question!

Does anyone feel that there should be word count limits on blogs? Or perhaps this may be relative to the topic taught? ... Something you could incorporate into the course structure...

Hello Everyone, I found an interesting article which states that Social Media is less than six degrees of separation ("5 Studies Prove that Social Medial is less than 6 Degrees of Separation" http://barnraisersllc.com/2012/04/studies-social-media-6-degrees-of-separatio/). Apparently Facebook and Twitter have roughly 4.5 degrees of separation - LinkedIn is 3. Perhaps the difference is the type of social networking. LinkedIn is more of a professional network, while the others are more "social" ... of course, Twitter can be used to promote businesses also. Just curious what everyone thinks? Is the Internet so powerful, that we have indeed become closer than the six degrees… >>>

Hi Vanessa,
I'm going to try your idea of breaking up the tasks, especially with the "me" time tasks interspersed, like the working out. They say that doing some physical exercise will make you that much more efficient with the mental tasks. I will frequently say "oh I am so swamped, I will skip the gym today" ... not good I know!

Exercise is a wonderful way to cope with stress! I love to swim and feel much better when I go to the gym and do laps for 35 minutes. However many times I will come home from work and say I'm too tired to go to the gym - not good I know! How do you motivate yourself to do the exercise even if it as the end of a long day?

Does anyone else feel stress over the increasing amount of paperwork that an instructor has to submit? Maybe it stressed me out because I feel it takes time from what we are really suppose to be doing: teaching out students?

The suggestions contained in this module are excellent! I found I was constantly checking my email, which took a lot of time. So now I do try to narrow it down to twice a day - morning and evening. But is even that too much?
How about weekends? Does anyone check their emails on weekends? I do, and I guess that contributes to the feeling I am "constantly working" ...

Even though I create a weekly "to do" list, and often accomplish the tasks on the list, I still feel like I am constantly working and I'm not managing my time efficiently. That feeling of working constantly also leads to stress and burnout. I also realize I am in the "immediacy" category, in that I feel I must do a given task right away, even if it isn't due right away. Does anyone else feel the way I do, and any suggestions? I'm thinking that I need to work more at prioritizing and not feeling that I have to do… >>>
