It sometimes takes great discipline to be a good problem solver. It is important to examine the elements of the situation, break it down and re-build it to come up with a plausible solution. We can't always go directly to a final solution without some work put into it.

I have noticed that students are afraid to use and trust their instincts for fear of being wrong. They look to us for the answer instead of problem solving on their own. It is important I feel to force them to think about the question that they are asking even if it means failure.

I don't think it is easy to teach someone how to be disciplined when it comes to learning. I feel however when a student does put in the effort in regards to something they really want to master the benefit becomes more apparent. This may reinforce how important this concept of discipline really is.

when students have a positive experience in the class room it encourages more participation. If they are not made to feel stupid, maybe moving in the right direction with a skill or concept they will become more productive. It is important however not to make them feel like there is no room for improvement.

I feel that class room management starts when an instructor first meets his class. Making clear the expectations, usually sets a tone for the entire term and for the whole class. We will always have those that might not cooperate and that is when we need to use our diplomacy skills.

Motivation is one of those things that is difficult to gage. There are so many students that are self motivated and become more driven by their continued success. Those who are not intrinsicly motivated need a push to get them moving in the right direction. If they have some success initially it seems to help them continue in a positive direction.

It is so important these days to take into consideration the different styles of learning. Lecture is an important part of teaching, however it can sometimes be mundane and boring. Breaking up a lecture with interactive segments, games, and group brain storming has been very affective for me these days.

remembering information is one of the hardest things for students to be successful with. There are ways that I try to encourage students to do this. I suggest re writing notes, studying with a friend and organizing the information so it makes more sense.

The beauty of learning is that is occurs on a daily basis. What is most difficult is managing all of the styles of learning in a class setting. I find that the older students while mature have a disadvantage in that they are set in their ways and take a little longer to adapt at times.

Stress is something that we all must endure. Balancing lifes hurdles is sometimes difficult. I sometimes have to evaluate what I am doing and how much I am taking on. Over committing to work and family can be overwhelming and very stressful. Taking time out to do something that is good such as exercise or hanging out with friends can re focus us.
