About me

Hello, my name is Donald Buresh, and I would like to share with you a little bit about myself.

I have worked in the information "technology field for nearly 30 years. In the past ten years, I have focused on software quality assurance, and have quality assured main-frame, client-server, and Internet applications. I have also led quality projects from the beginning to the end. I now spend my time teaching economics and management courses.

I have taught economics, finance, project management, technology management, business research methods, information management methods, calculus, probability and statistics, software quality assurance, software engineering, database management, Visual Basic, Microsoft Office, computer applications, COBOL programming, and systems analysis and design at different colleges and universities.

I have earned a B.S. in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Illinois Chicago, an M.A. in economics from Boston College, and an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, with an emphasis in total quality and operations management. I earned my Doctor of Philosophy at Northcentral University in the management of engineering and technology.

I have a number of certifications from the American Society for Quality, including a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (#810), a Certified Quality Manager (#6687), a Certified Quality Engineer (#43354), a Certified Reliability Engineer (#5431), a Certified Quality Auditor (#27128), and a Certified Software Quality Engineer (#1769). I am also aQMS 9000 Provisional Auditor (#Q08687) from the Registrar Accreditation Board, and a Certificate in Data Processing (#821630) from the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals. Currently, I am studying for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute, and I intend to take the examination sometime this year.

Many years ago, I passed the series 63, 6 and 26 examinations from the National Association of Securities Dealers, but I am no longer associated with a broker-dealer. Furthermore, at that point in my life, I held a Massachusetts insurance broker's license.

My outside interests include fencing epee and foil and playing my violin. I have been fencing and playing my violin on and off for the past 30 years. I am divorced, and have two adult children.

Bloom's Taxonomy

When using Bloom's Taxonomy, it has been my experience that some courses lend themselves to employing all of the levels of the taxonomy, while others do not. In fact, the higher the level of the course, the more I expect that the upper levels of the taxonomy to be employed, and the lower levers of the taxonomy can be ignored. Do you agree?

The most important thing that a person can do in this world is dream, and then act on the dreams. For me a dream is not just a dream about the person themselves, but the dream must encompass others. Only then is a dream achievable, and will promote the betterment of all.

My daughter is legally blind. I have dealt with Emily's visual challenges since she was born. Early on, we decided to explain to Emily that her visual problems were only a "minor inconvenience". It worked. Emily, who has optic nerve glioma, and has 20/800 in one eye and 20/2000 in the other, graduated with a BFA in visual arts no less.

People with disabilities come with all kinds of issues. In my mind, the real issue is for the individual to never give up hope, dream great dreams, and work like crazy to achieve those dreams.

EL103 - Teaching Online: A Student-Centered Approach

I am trained a s an economist and have a PhD in the Management of Engineering and Technology. My main interests are in macroeconomics, and new technology. This course gave me suffuicient information so that I now feel equiped to create onbline courses. This information will not only be useful in my current position, but it may be quite helpful in exploring future opportunities. Overall, I was pleased with the course.
